The portrait commission begins with a detailed consultation about the painting’s subject. A photo session is arranged and generally lasts about two hours, during which time Monica not only gathers reference material but also has an opportunity to get to know her subject. Depending on complexity, the artist takes from 6 to 8 weeks to complete a portrait.
